Allyson Reid-Skagos' FAQ's

Email: allyson@takisnet.org

What's with the hyphen in my last name?

Reid is my maiden name, Skagos is my husband's name. While I wanted to take his name to reflect the fact we're married, I also didn't want to lose the name/identity I had before we got married.

Besides that, I have no brothers and my father had no brothers, so my sister and I are the last of the Reid's. My sister hyphenated her name, also.

Why do I choose to live in Regina, of all places?

I was born and raised in Regina (Pasqua Hospital, to be exact) and no matter where I go, Regina will always be Home.

I lived in Guelph, Ontario for 4 years from August 1990 to August 1994.

Why did I come back?

Because I decided my future would stand still forever if I stayed in Guelph any longer.

What am I doing here?

I completed high school at Campbell Collegiate.

I finished my Bachelor of Administration degree (with Distinction and Co-op designation) and my Certificate in Computer Science in May, 1998 and am now employed at Saskatchewan Public Service Commission in the Staffing/Classification department.

I'm a member of IPMA (International Personnel Management Association - Canada) and a lifetime member of Weightwatchers (total weight loss of 35 lbs).

What are my favourite Weightwatchers web-based tools?

Dotti's Weight Loss Zone and The USDA National Nutrient Database. When eating out, restaurants often have a nutritional information brochure available. Alternatively, you can visit the restaurant's website to find nutritional information.

Where else have I worked?

My first co-op work term was with SaskPower, in their inventory Supply department. I worked in the office at the main inventory warehouse where I learned A LOT about Lotus-1-2-3, Excel, Word, and a few other computer-oriented things....like how to keep the temper down when your document takes half an hour to print....it was fun!

My second and third work terms ran consecutively at SaskPower as well, this time in the Customer Services Business Unit. I filled a maternity leave, doing budgets and personnel. It was quite interesting and challenging.

My last work term was also with SaskPower, Customer Services. This time, I was involved in special projects in the Human Resources Field. I wrote a Violence Policy and was a member of the Customer Services Joint Job Classification Committee...they worked on new Job Descriptions and associated Training Modules. It was a great learning experience!

Following convocation from University, I took some time off then worked for SaskPower in their Human Resources department from March until September, 1999. From there I moved over to SaskTel for a year. I started with the Public Service Commission in October, 2000.

From December, 1990 until May, 2003 I worked for Royal Bank. In Guelph, I worked full-time for 4 years, then part-time in Regina.

What are my plans for the ever-so-looming future?

Plans? What are plans?

Any special interests?

Hanging out with my daughters, Willow and Rowynn, is my favourite thing to do!

In the winter, I play ringette.

In the summer, I like to go camping in the various Provincial Parks in the province...so far our favourites are Cypress Hills and Greenwater.

Decorating our house and yard with my husband, Takis Skagos is always fun...we're slowly working on it!

I also like to do Pilates and work out at the gym.

To pass the time in between, I like to work on my daughters' scrapbooks. I also collect stuffed animals (the pretend ones) and things with cow pattern on them (our whole kitchen is filled with cow stuff)!
