Visit Saskatchewan's Provincial Parks!

Have you ever had a disappointing camping trip?

Camping can be no fun if things don't go as planned. So for all you campers out there, here are a few things you should remember to take with you and to do while you're there.

Check out the local weather forecast
  • look in the paper
  • phone the weather forecast people, or
  • check out Environment Canada's website!
  • Leave Your Site Clean
There's nothing worse than arriving at a campsite to find garbage all over from the people before you .. .please ... have some consideration and clean up your mess before you leave!
    Turn the music down!
Please consider your neighbours when you turn the music on....not everybody in the world likes the same type of music as you, and some people may be trying to sleep!
    Don't leave your dog alone!
If you bring your dog camping, take him with you when you go places...it's not fair to the dog to leave him in a strange place with nobody he knows around to keep him company! It's also not fair to your neighbours when the dog barks because he's lonely...if you're not prepared to do this, then leave him at home with someone you know will take care of him.
Hang a tarp up between trees around your camp site to:
  • Provide shade on sunny days.
  • Protect your tent and eating area from the rain.
  • Provide privacy if hung vertically.
  • Break off a chunk of a firestarter log and place it in with your wood and newspaper when starting a fire to:
  • Dry out wet wood.
  • Help dense, heavy wood catch fire.
  • Mosquito Repellent
This is ESSENTIAL for camping in Saskatchewan ... you never know how bad the bugs will be in the bush...
Take an axe instead of a hatchet.
Most Sask. Provincial Parks provide wood that has been cut in lengths, but hasn't been split...it takes FOREVER with a hatchet to split the stuff! The axe weighs and costs a little more, but it's worth it!
    Take a Shovel
If you're a tent-camper, you know what it's like to sleep on uneven ground... take a shovel to help level out the bumps and divets in the ground!
    An umbrella will:
  • Keep you dry while moving around.
  • Keep your food and fire dry while cooking.
  • Leave Some Split Wood Behind
It's so nice to arrive at a campsite and find a bit of wood already split for you....do it just because it's considerate!
    Keep the noise level down
Not everybody enjoys the sound of children screaming and dogs barking... and sound travels extrememly well in a campground...let the kids have fun, but please don't allow them to go crazy!
